Protective vest donated to Indiana State Police K9

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indiana State Police K9 is getting a new protective vest.

According to a press release, K9 Daisy will receive a vest designed to help keep dogs protected during shootings and stabbings.

ISP reported that Vested Interest in K9s Inc. donated the vest to Daisy. The protective equipment is expected to be delivered in 8-10 weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s was established in 2009. The charity’s mission is to provide protective vests to law enforcement dogs across the U.S. The body armor the charity donates is made in the U.S., custom-fitted and National Institute of Justice-certified.

Per ISP, Vested Interest in K9s had provided more than 5,514 vests to K9s in all 50 states. The cost of the vests donated is estimated to be about $6.9 million.

Vested Interest in K9s’ program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed with a certified law enforcement agency. K9s with expired vests are also eligible for the program.

Per a release, Vested Interest in K9s accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount. A single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1,800, weighs about four or five pounds and comes with a five-year warranty.
