IMPD: Juvenile girl shot, injured on Indy’s northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS — Indy police are investigating after a juvenile girl was injured in a shooting on the city’s northeast side.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called just before 4 p.m. Wednesday to the 3400 block of Blue Spruce Lane for a person shot.

Upon arrival, IMPD said they located a female juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound. Police are not confirming the victim’s age as of 5:40 p.m.

According to IMPD Officer William Young, officers rendered aid to the girl on scene before IEMS arrived and took her to Riley Children’s Hospital. She is currently listed in “serious condition,” Young said.

During an on-scene briefing, Young said that detectives are unsure whether the shooting occurred inside or outside of the Villages at Mill Crossing apartment complex. Officers are also unsure whether the shooting was accidental, self-inflicted or something else.

According to Young, the area where the shooting occurred is heavily traveled. IMPD is now asking that anyone in the area who may have seen or heard something call 911 immediately. To make an anonymous report, call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS.

IMPD aggravated assault detectives are currently on scene of the shooting gathering evidence and speaking to potential witnesses. Young said that several people who were inside an apartment at the time of the shooting, including one adult, may have been involved and are being interviewed.

Due to the chaotic nature of the scene, Young said that no suspects are in custody and that detectives still need more information to pursue any arrests.

This is the second time in less than 6 months that IMPD has been called to the same area of Blue Spruce Lane for a juvenile shot.

On Nov. 15, 2023, 13-year-old Dayon Darnell Lyles was shot at the Villages at Mill Crossing apartment complex in the 3500 block of Blue Spruce Lane. The teen was later pronounced dead after arriving at Riley Hospital for Children.
