IDAHO FALLS – Bonneville County Prosecuting Attorney Randy Neal has announced multiple charges for the individual involved in the shootout and standoff with police Monday afternoon at the EconoLodge on Broadway.

Robert Alan Flores Jr., 46, has been charged with seven felony counts and two misdemeanors from the incident. Six of the felony charges are for assault or battery and possession of a firearm by a convict. The misdemeanors were for resisting arrest, and a misdemeanor of first offense trespass.

Each aggravated assault charge comes with a maximum 10-year sentence and an enhancement penalty of 15 years for the use of a firearm. If Flores is found guilty, he faces 25 years of potential punishment. Flores is being held on a $1 million bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Flores was on bail for other cases in Bonneville and Bingham counties. Flores posted two $50,000 surety bonds in those cases.

This is the third time the Idaho Falls Police Department has interacted with Flores since December. Each interaction has resulted in Idaho Falls Police SWAT being called to handle him.

The first interaction with Flores was the day after Christmas when SWAT descended on the 500 block of K Street to arrest him on a warrant.

Flores was wanted for two felony counts of battery on a healthcare worker and one count of a burglary that came from an event on Dec. 15. Flores faces 26 years in prison and a potential $150,000 fine and restitution in this case.

On Feb. 26 , SWAT was in another standoff with Flores after he allegedly violated a no-contact order with a victim in another case.

SWAT arrested Flores in a residence near K Street and Canal Avenue.

Flores was charged in this incident with two felonies, witness intimidation and stalking, and two misdemeanor counts of violation of the no-contact order. Witness intimidation and stalking are punishable by up to five years in jail and a total fine of $60,000. Punishment of a no-contact order is punishable by one year and a $1,000 fine.

On Monday, police were called to the EconoLodge to deal with Flores as he refused to leave his hotel room after checkout. This incident resulted in Flores being shot and an officer being injured.

Police had prior interactions with Flores. Four officers made their way toward Flores’ room. Police knocked on their door and announced they were police multiple times.

When Flores did not respond, officers used a master key to enter the room and entered the room, breaking the door chain. According to the affidavit, one of the officers with a ballistic shield faced the bathroom door as the three other officers cleared the room.

The affidavit states that one of the officers attempted to open the bathroom door, and Flores fired one shot from a Glock 44. Flores exited the bathroom and fired two more shots at the three other officers trapped in the room.

Flores had multiple wounds to the abdomen consistent with gunshot wounds.
