Merced dominates Los Banos, closes in on another CCC championship
When Merced High receiver Israel Rodas is matched up man-to-man, he knows there is a good chance the ball is coming his way. Rodas torched Los Banos for three first-half touchdown catches to help propel the Bears to a 49-12 win on Friday night at Cathie Hostetler Stadium. Rodas finished with five catches for 102 yards in the first half. I get very excited when I know they are playing me man-to-man,” Rodas said. “I already know I’m going to get the ball. I just have to catch it and run.” Rodas started the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Raul Moreno midway through the first quarter. The Merced defense came up with a big turnover, forcing the ball out of Los Banos quarterback Moises Perez’s hands before he could cross the goal line. Merced’s Anthony Ward scooped up the fumble and ran 73 yards before he was tackled at the Tigers’ 25-yard line. Three plays later, Moreno found Rodas in the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 14-0 with 5:50 left in the second quarter.
