State LULAC convention draws national politicos
Saturday was a day to celebrate Latin heritage, culture and power as the New Mexico League of United Latin American Citizens brought its state convention to Silver City. State LULAC Director Fred Baca, who lives in Silver City, said most of the organization’s events are in the Albuquerque area, but he wanted to bring the state convention to Silver City this year.
Donation theft leaves kids sad, undaunted
Fifth-graders at Bayard Elementary School learned a difficult lesson recently from a class project to clean up the Bayard Community Park. Teacher Lucinda Valencia applied for and won a $1,000 grant from the National Park Service to take her 23 fifth-graders to White Sands National Park on April 25.
