The Laredo Board of Aldermen heard updates on May 13 on the sewer construction project. City Clerk Mercedes Scobee reported that Simco Contracting is issuing submittals to McClure Engineering. The contracting company is also coordinating with subcontractors to schedule a day to start work on the lagoon and lift station.

Torch run routes for Special Olympics set in Chillicothe and Gallatin
Special Olympics Missouri has released information on routes for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Missouri. Area routes will be run on May 22. In Chillicothe, the route will run from Simpson Park to the fire station, starting at 9 a.m. The Gallatin route will begin at the courthouse at 11:30 a.m. and proceed down Main Street. The Cameron route will start at the police department on May 22 at 1 p.m.
Mercer County Health Department to hold Annual 5K and Bike Rodeo July 17
The Mercer County Health Department will hold its Annual 5K and Bike Rodeo this summer. The event will be at the Mercer County Fairgrounds in Princeton on July 17. Free bike helmet fittings will be offered, and registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. The bike rodeo for children will start at 7 p.m.
Trenton City Administrator details storm damage and street work updates
In a written report submitted to the Trenton City Council, City Administrator Ron Urton detailed storm damage and street milling work. Urton reported that storms during the first weekend of May damaged four hangar doors at the airport’s north hangar building. He noted that repairs cost about $2,500 and the city plans to file a claim with its insurance company.

Jamesport City Council plans street work, sets up CD for funds
The Jamesport City Council on May 13 approved creating a certificate of deposit (CD) for money left in the celebration account created for the Sesquicentennial. City Clerk Shelly Page reported there were no outstanding bills for the celebration account. She discussed with members of the group that hosted the Sesquicentennial that funds were still available, and it was decided to create a CD. The CD will ensure that when the next anniversary occurs, there will be money available to start preparations.

Trenton City Council approves new recovery home for women
With a room full of observers, the Trenton City Council voted on Monday night to allow 403 East 8th Court to be used as a recovery home/sober living facility. The ordinance for a conditional use permit for Duane Urich and Jennifer Hottes was approved with six council votes in favor, one abstention, and one absence.
Trenton Board of Education reviews scholarships, contracts and discusses future plans
At the Trenton R-9 Board of Education meeting on May 15, Superintendent Daniel Gott reported on the scholarship money awarded to Trenton High School seniors recently. He said $77,239 was awarded to seniors in external scholarships and $87,874 in institutional scholarships. Additionally, $278,640 was awarded to students who qualified for the A+ Program and plan to attend an A+ school. Gott said that amount represents the value of a two-year education at a community college for all seniors who will use A+.
Motorcycle overturns on Route J, Elmer woman injured
On May 11, 2024, at approximately 2:40 p.m., a motorcycle accident occurred on Route J, two miles east of New Boston, resulting in moderate injuries to a woman. Dikki D. Buck, 64, of Elmer, Missouri, was riding a 2017 Harley Davidson eastbound when she failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the right side of the road, and overturned.
