A 28-year-old man was hit and killed by a vehicle Saturday in Hughesville.

On April 13 at about midnight, firefighters from Hughesville and Waldorf volunteer fire departments were alerted to Leonardtown Road and Wolfe Drive for a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

First responders arrived on the scene and found a man who had been struck by a vehicle. Units quickly assessed the pedestrian and pronounced him deceased, according to the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department.

EMS Chief 2A assessed the driver of the striking vehicle and determined no emergency medical services were needed.

Units turned the scene over to Maryland State Police for investigation and requested the light unit from the Charles County Department of Emergency Services to illuminate the scene for collision reconstruction. Units operated on the scene for approximately 35 minutes.

A preliminary investigation conducted by troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack and the Collision Reconstruction Specialist indicated a Toyota Camry operated by Renee Hull, 45, of Lexington Park was traveling southbound on Route 5 in the area of Wolfe Drive, a release from the state police barrack said.

At the same time, the pedestrian, identified as Enoch F. Rogers, 28, of Clinton, was walking north in the southbound lanes, the release said.

Rogers was in the travel path of the Toyota and was ultimately struck. Pedestrian error appears to be the factor in the collision, according to state police.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact the duty officer at the state police La Plata barrack at 301-392-1200. The investigation is continuing.
