What to know about spongy moths
MID-HUDSON- Spongy moth populations rise and fall in cycles of roughly 10 to 15 years and entomologists say that 2024 is a year of high population in the Mid-Hudson Region of the state. Populations of spongy moths vary during the cycle, from years with few caterpillars and very minor damage to years with large numbers of caterpillars and very noticeable leaf damage and tree defoliation.

The Thomas Cole National Historic Site in Catskill, New York has opened a new exhibition titled “Native Prospects: Indigeneity and Landscape.” It juxtaposes an Indigenous approach to the articulation of their homelands and the environment with the American landscape paintings of Thomas Cole, which are rooted in European tradition.

SAUGERTIES – On Saturday, the weather was perfect for a trout fishing derby at the Mullen Family Farm in Saugerties. The “Andrew Mullen Memorial Trout Fishing Derby and Pancake Breakfast” is a fundraiser for a Saugerties High School scholarship in memory of Andrew Mullen, who drowned in the family pool at the age of 13 months in the summer of 2000. Andrew was one of five brothers of Ulster County Undersheriff James Mullen.
