Homeless man injured in fire on city night lawn dies
Rick Bevel, 68, said he came to love Ashland; fiancée says injuries hastened his death. Rick Bevel was 68 years old when he died Friday, April 26, about a month after he was discharged from the intensive care unit at a Portland hospital where he had been treated for injuries sustained during an altercation and ensuing fire on Jan. 16 at the city of Ashland’s dusk-to-dawn sleeping area — an event his fiancée says led to his death.

Some places in Southern Oregon seeing a late start to fire season
MEDFORD, Ore. – Despite the summer-like temperatures recently, many local fire agencies are actually expecting a late start to fire season. Ashland Fire and Rescue told the Ashland City Council on Monday that the late start is due to a wet winter. Ashland physician nearly falls prey to scammer impersonating sheriff
Multiple Ashland residents receive calls threatening arrest; authorities offer tips on how to keep yourself safe from scammers. At 10:43 a.m. on April 8, Ashland physician Dr. Deborah Gordon received a phone call from a scammer taking on the alias of Jackson County’s Sheriff Nate Sickler. In the phone call, Dr. Gordon was told that she had failed to appear at a court summons as a material witness, resulting in issuance of a warrant for her arrest.
