Election Day on Block Island
The ballot for the mid-term election in Rhode Island and Block Island was relatively noncompetitive, with several uncontested races returning incumbents to their positions and others where the competition was so weak the challengers barely registered. Still, the turnout was strong, especially on Block Island where 60 percent of registered voters showed up at the one polling place at Town Hall, most of them taking advantage of early voting. In all, 696 voters cast ballots out of 1,157 registered in New Shoreham, a participation rate of 60 percent.
