Barricade situation in Mililani ends with suspect surrendering

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 10-hour standoff in Mililani ended with a male suspect in custody over the weekend.

According to the Honolulu Police Department, the incident began following a domestic dispute between a 40-year-old man and 54-year-old woman in a home on Lanikuhana Avenue Saturday evening.

The argument then escalated to which the male barricade himself in a bedroom with the female victim, said police.

HPD said the suspect eventually surrendered himself by early Sunday morning and he was arrested for kidnapping — however, his offense was declined by prosecutors.

No injuries were observed or reported on either of the two involved.

Lanikuhana Avenue from Makimono Street to Anania Drive was shut down in both directions but has since been reopened.
