Evangeline Lilly returns to Hawaiʻi for Lost event

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaiʻi has long been a place where television and filmmakers want to shoot. It’s gorgeous with so much ecological diversity that it really blows your mind thinking about it.
The Shark God and Hawaiʻi Love were the first two feature films to be shot in Hawaiʻi. This was in May 1913 with Universal Picture productions .
According to the Hawaiʻi Film Office, “the two films were made by a theatrical troupe during a two month stay in Honolulu. The films were shot between stage appearances at the Bijou theatre, and Queen Liliuokalani was still alive and living out here final years at Washington Place.”
One of the more famous television productions to have its core setting in Hawaiʻi was Lost. When Lost came to our televisions, we became immersed in outdoor life in Hawaiʻi.
Lost was extremely popular during its run from 2004 to 2010, and it was known for its innovative storytelling, complex characters and mysterious plot lines.
The show’s pilot episode was watched by over 18 million viewers in the United States. This makes it one of the biggest premieres of its time.
Its popularity continued throughout its six seasons and maintained high viewership along with a dedicated fan base. Lost also received critical acclaim and won numerous awards including the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.
The show was influential in setting trends for TV dramas with its use of serialized storylines, flashbacks and a large ensemble cast.
Internationally, the show was equally successful. It aired in various countries and gained a global following.
And the show’s discussion of philosophical and moral questions, along with its innovative narrative structure, helped it maintain a strong and engaged audience.
It is because of its mark on audiences that a new concert dedicated to the memories of the survivors’ experiences.
“We have to go back”
The Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra is hosting, in association with Little Jacket Industries and ABC Studios, an evening with visiting conductor Michael Giacchino who will conduct his music from the made-in-Hawai’i television show, “Lost: We Have to Go Back”.
The show is meant to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this iconic television series. Joining Giacchino will be Lost actor Evangeline Lilly who played Kate Austin, Henry Ian Cusick who played Desmond Hume and Carlton Cuse who was an executive producer on the show.
It’s taking place Saturday, April 27 at 7 p.m. at Hawaiʻi Theater. You can click here for tickets.
