Trade winds strengthening leading to more windward showers

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Thursday will see a shift from gentle trade winds to gusty conditions due to strengthening high pressure north of the state. Showers will affect windward and mountainous regions, extending sporadically into leeward areas. Expect a return to drier and more stable weather over the weekend, accompanied by moderate to breezy easterly trades. However, by early next week, rainfall chances may rise again as an upper disturbance moves near the state, strengthening trade winds once more.

Easterly trades will intensify, particularly on Thursday, peaking in strength. This prompted a Wind Advisory for Maui County and the Big Island.. Sporadic windward showers are expected to persist, especially overnight and in the mornings, due to low-level moisture and a lingering upper low. These showers will be brief.

Drier and more stable conditions is anticipated over the weekend.
