    Over 200 arrests, and 650 traffic stops during Operation Safe Streets in Holyoke

    HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Holyoke Police Department (HPD), in collaboration with various partner agencies, proudly announced the substantial progress made through its comprehensive “Operation Safe Streets” initiative, showcasing a collective dedication to bolstering community safety and tackling crucial public health issues.

    Working in tandem with several partner agencies, “Operation Safe Streets” has yielded significant enhancements in various areas of public safety. The collaborative efforts have involved the following agencies:

    • Massachusetts State Police
    • Hampden County Sheriff’s Department
    • FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force
    • Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force
    • Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Task Force
    • Homeland Security Investigations
    • United States Marshal’s Service
    • District Attorney Anthony Gulluni

    Since the launch of “Operation Safe Streets,” HPD, along with its partner agencies, has achieved notable results, demonstrating the commitment to combatting crime and improving community well-being:

    • 202 Arrests: Targeting individuals engaged in criminal activities such as drug trafficking, firearm offenses, and other serious violations.
    • 654 Motor Vehicle Stops: Enforcing traffic laws and enhancing road safety in neighborhoods.
    • 79 Criminal Summonses: Holding accountable those who violate laws and ordinances, ensuring justice is served.
    • 242 Property Checks: Enhancing security and vigilance across residential and commercial areas.
    • 99 Street Stops: Proactively addressing street-level issues and promoting public safety.
    • 6 Firearms Recovered: Removing dangerous weapons from streets, mitigating potential violence.
    • 249 Substance Abuse / Mental Health Outreach Attempts: Collaborating with the Center for Human Development (CHD) staff to provide vital services and support to individuals in crisis.

    These efforts have also led to significant seizures, disrupting criminal networks and curbing illicit activities:

    • $220,000 Seized: Disrupting illicit financial activities associated with criminal enterprises.
    • 89 Grams of Heroin/Fentanyl: Combating the opioid crisis and reducing drug-related harms.
    • Over eight Kilograms of Cocaine: Dismantling large-scale drug distribution operations within the city.

    Additionally, HPD executed nine Search Warrants throughout Holyoke, showcasing a proactive approach to investigating and dismantling criminal activities.
