Centerville man who made online threats to commit school shooting sentenced
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- A Centerville man was sentenced in federal court on Wednesday, May 1 to six years in prison for possessing a machine gun. 23-year-old Alex Jaques used an uzi-style weapon during a YouTube video in which he threatens to commit a mass shooting at a California school.

I have been receiving anonymous text messages telling me to demand the Salinas City Council call for a standalone election, but I am wondering if that is unnecessary (“Appointment or election? Salinas will weigh its options to fill a council vacancy,” posted April 22). This seems like it could be an opportunity for some groups to take advantage of low voter turnout to sneak a candidate into the City Council who normally couldn’t be allowed in.

At the Academic Rally in Mattson Gym on Thursday, April 25, Hollister High School announced the Top 10 students from each grade level, based on their class standing from freshmen year through the end of the Fall semester this year. The freshman class Top 10 actually features 80 students, as all students with a 4.0 GPA as of the end of the Fall semester were recognized. The final Top 10 list of graduating seniors from the Class of 2024 will be announced later this month.
