The majority of local voters passed their school district budgets and voted for any incumbents up for re-election. Passing the budget for the next school year follows the state trend. Voters in all of the districts in Oneida, Herkimer and eastern Madison counties who reported their election results to the Observer-Dispatch approved their budgets as well as any propositions on their ballots.
Remsen Arts festival returns with art, cars, music & more
REMSEN — The Remsen Arts Fest returns from May 31 through June 2 at the Remsen Arts Center, 9627 Main St. The event features local artists — including high school artists — in the art show and sale, live stage entertainment, children’s activities, artists demonstrations, video presentations and more. This is a free event hosted by the Remsen Arts Center thanks to its sponsors, members, generous donations from the community and a CNY Arts Statewide Community Regrants grant.
Chair of Herkimer County Legislature arrested, charged with drug offense
The chair of the Herkimer County Legislature was arrested over the weekend and charged with a drug offense. An Ilion Police Department representative said Robert Hollum, 49, was arrested at approximately 7:45 p.m. Sunday. He was issued appearance tickets for criminal possession of a controlled substance and having an open container in a motor vehicle.
Herkimer County woman sentenced to prison for murder
MOHAWK — A Herkimer County woman has been sentenced to 18 years to life in state prison for stabbing another woman to death. Taylor E. Goodhines, 22, of Mohawk, was sentenced Monday by Judge John H. Crandall on Tuesday, May 21, to 18 years to life in state prison on a charge of second-degree murder, court officials said. Goodhines pleaded guilty in March.
