Former St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter takes new job as Fuse CEO
Former St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter has a new title: CEO. State of play : Carter, who lost his re-election bid to Kaohly Her last November, starts today as the top boss at Fuse , a national nonprofit that "helps local governments accelerate solutions to complex challenges." How it works: Fuse runs an executive fellowship program that places policy experts in local governments across the country to help local officials address issues ranging from affordability to climate to public safety. What he's saying: "My fundamental belief has always been that the way we move America forward isn't some push from D.C., but it's local communities across the country working together to pull the country forward," Carter told Axios in an interview ahead of this morning's announcement. Fuse, he said, can play a big role in that innovation by asking local governments "what's the biggest thing that you don't have the capacity to do," then providing the support for them to make real progress. Case in point: Carter knows the organization's impact firsthand. During his tenure, the city brought on a Fuse fellow . The fellow's work was central to St. Paul's sustainable transportation efforts, including the addition of more charging

Video rental stores are making a comeback in Minneapolis
Twin Cities movie buffs nostalgic for the days of Blockbuster will soon have somewhere to rewind. The big picture: After three years of pop-ups at local markets and theaters, nonprofit Saturn Video will open the metro's only video rental storefront next month in Minneapolis' Seward neighborhood. Why it matters: As streaming prices rise , digital licenses lapse and online archives disappear , many cinephiles and casual movie fans are returning to physical media for guaranteed access to both new and beloved films. State of play: The metro hasn't had a permanent video rental store since 2023, when Video Universe in Robbinsdale shut its doors in part due to a lack of new physical media . Pop-up and member-supported operations like Sloppy Discs and Ant Hill Video have cropped up in its place, but Saturn Video will be the first to open a physical storefront. What she's saying: "A lot of media is already gone from the Internet, and I think people are waking up to the fact that streaming is amorphous — the catalogue is always changing, and even if you buy a movie, they can take it away from you," owner Sierra Parham told Axios.
