New York City area to see more sunshine today, highs around 70
NYC weather todayAfter a cool start, temperatures will rebound very nicely today as highs reach the upper 60s and low 70s under mostly sunny skies. A stray shower is possible in the afternoon hours, especially west of the city. Tonight will be the last night to catch the Northern Lights in our area and skies should cooperate. Temps warm even further by Tuesday, getting into the mid 70s to near 80. Our wettest period looks to be late Tuesday through Wednesday. During this timeframe, moderate to heavy rain is possible and many locations may see an inch or more of rainfall....
Speed limits are too darn high
Last month, a group of families whose loved ones were killed by drivers successfully lobbied the New York state legislature to pass a law allowing New York City to set its own speed limits. Sammy’s Law allows city officials — rather than the state’s Department of Transportation — to determine...
Op-Ed: Stack’s New Law Would Allow Pols to Pad Their Benefits Out of Public View
It has come to my attention that Union City Mayor and Senator Brian P. Stack, has introduced S2702, which I believe is a threat to transparency and fiscal responsibility in government. This legislation amends current state law requiring that the salaries of certain County officers and employees be passed by ordinance. The amendment would allow for non-pensionable salary to be excluded from the ordinance mandate. In other words, top officials in County governments can pad their pay with fringe benefits and give themselves second and even third jobs, with no public oversight or regulation.

Grads from Columbia School of Social Work wear zip tie handcuffs at commencement ceremony
Defiant Columbia University graduates wore zip-tie handcuffs, brandished pro-Palestinian signs and even went as far as tearing up a diploma on stage during the Ivy League’s first commencement ceremonies. The protesting students were caught on camera storming across the platform on May 10 to accept their degrees during ceremonies that were significantly pared back after weeks of violent anti-Israel demonstrations on campus. A man was shot to death outside his Brooklyn home early Sunday just down the block from the scene of a 2022 double homicide. Medics rushed the man to Brookdale University Hospital, where he died about an hour later. ...
Bloods ‘godfather’ nicknamed ‘Chucky’ gets 23 years in federal prison
A violent Brooklyn Bloods “godfather” leader who once blasted a disloyal gang member’s leg off was sentenced Thursday to 23 years in federal prison. Quandell “Chucky” Smothers, 33, was such a terrifying presence in East New York that the man whose leg he shot off lied about it on the witness stand, the feds said — despite identifying him as the shooter on the scene, at the hospital, in a line-up and in grand jury testimony.
