Card skimmer pleads guilty; sentence deferred
EL RENO – An Oklahoma City man has pleaded guilty and received a deferred sentence in Canadian County for his role in a credit card skimming scheme. Sergio Burrola Moreno, 54, was charged in October 2023 with 48 felony counts that included obtaining property by trick/deception and false personation.
Negligent homicide charge filed in fatal county crash
EL RENO – A semi-truck driver faces up to two years in prison and fines totaling up to $2,000 if convicted of causing a fatal crash in far west Canadian County. Chickasha’s Cordele R. Brandon Sr., 69, was charged April 9 with two counts of negligent homicide by motor vehicle in Canadian County District Court.
Man shoots family to death, then kills himself
A Canadian County man shot his wife and three of their children to death before killing himself inside their home between Mustang and Yukon. Oklahoma City Police responded about 9:35 a.m. Monday to 2804 Mirage Street near S.W. 29th and Czech Hall Road after a 911 caller said five people were dead inside.
Inmates locked inside shower stalls for days file lawsuit against Oklahoma Department of Corrections
Seven state prisoners who were locked in 3-by-3-foot shower stalls at the Great Plains Correctional Facility in Hinton last August are suing the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, alleging their prolonged confinement in cramped and unsanitary conditions amounts to cruel and unusual punishment. Conviction upheld in Canadian County double-murder case
The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals on April 18 upheld the conviction of a Tulsa man who committed a double-murder and rape in Canadian County. Derek Don Posey was convicted in July 2019 of the rape and murder of a young woman and the murder of her five-year-old son in a fire he set to cover the crime scene.
