Verbal Altercation Leads to Attempted Murder Charges

Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman, Jr, and Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather announced the arrest of Thomas E. Carter, age 61, Montgomery Street, Highland Park, New Jersey for an attempted murder that occurred in the vicinity of Hamilton Street, Franklin Township, New Jersey on the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024.

FRANKLIN TWP. NJ - A New Brunswick man was stabbed near Hamilton Street in Franklin on Sunday night, according to a news release.

Thomas E. Carter of Highland Park was arrested on Tuesday and charged with first-degree attempted murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

An area hospital called the Franklin Township Police department on Sunday at 8:03pm reporting a victim who sustained a stab wound in Franklin Township.

"The victim, a New Brunswick resident, sustained potential life-threatening injuries and underwent emergency surgery at the hospital," McDonald said in a news release. "Following surgery, the victim was subsequently interviewed by detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit."
