HICKSVILLE — Hicksville Village Council approved the job description for EMS deputy chief and heard about other water projects during its recent meeting.

According to Fire Chief Bruce Hart, the position has existed for some time, and is now being filled with Bruce Silcott. It will be a full-time position and salaried.

Silcott has been a volunteer EMT/firefighter with the village in the past.

The action comes after the village briefly suspended EMS services in late December because it did not have a medical director as required.

“If any of the EMS have a question about the EMS, Bruce (Silcott) is the guy to go to and he comes to me and tells me what’s going on,” explained Hart.

In another matter, the splash pad will be breaking ground in April.

During a committee meeting project price increases were explained. After the changes were all determined to be needed the village agreed to pay the difference on the project, amounting to some $250,000.

Council also heard from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and authorized the village to put in a test well to monitor the water table.

In other business, council:

• council approved renewing its contract with Maumee Valley Planning Organization.

• approved by emergency an ordinance to amend the appropriations and a resolution to enter into a contract with Dangler Excavating, LLC, for the Meadow Lane and Beverly Drive water service replacement project. First readings on an additional two pieces of legislation were also passed — a resolution authorizing the sale of unneeded, obsolete or unfit village personal property including by internet auction for the calendar year of 2024 and a resolution to donate two sets of bleachers to the Mac Gym that are not needed for the public use and have no value, according to documents provided by the village.

• entered into executive session for the purpose of employee matters.
