A pregnant woman and her unborn child are safe after deputies arrested a woman who confessed to planning the death of the pregnant woman’s child. On April 12, a woman who was 11 weeks pregnant told the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office that she believed someone had solicited her former fiancé to help kill her unborn child by duping her into taking an abortion pill.
Parkland father shares mission at annual Hernando County Schools safety summit
HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — Teachers and staff members of Hernando County Public Schools are getting a briefing on school safety this week. It’s part of the district’s annual School Safety Summit at Crosspoint Church. This year, two nationally recognized experts in school safety are hosting keynoting sessions. One of those sessions was on Monday, featuring Max Schachter, who lost a child in the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

This week, the Hernando County school district held a summit for teachers and administrators to discuss initiatives aimed at bolstering security and making families feel comfortable sending their children. Among the speakers was Max Schachter, who lost a child at Parkland.
Drug bust at Brooksville Budget Inn
Late Monday morning, June 5th, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office conducted a drug bust at the Budget Inn at 1795 E. Jefferson Street in Brooksville. This bust was a result of a three month investigation. Officers were able to recover about two grams of fentanyl, two grams of oxycodone, a gram of cocaine, some marijuana, and some drug paraphernalia at the scene. One of the individuals in the hotel already had an arrest warrant issued for burglary. She is now under arrest. There was also another individual in the hotel room who participated in some of the sales who is now under arrest as well. The Sheriff’s Office will release more information as it becomes available.

Alice La Placa retires after a 40-year teaching career in Hernando Schools
Often looking back on our school years, we can point to teachers that have made a difference in our lives. I was blessed to have several teachers who helped me become the person I am today. One of those teachers was Mrs. La Placa or, as I knew her, Mrs. Brown. She is retiring this year after forty years of teaching in Hernando County Schools.

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - A woman is accused of trying to give a pregnant woman an abortion pill without her consent, deputies said. The victim, who was 11 weeks pregnant at the time, contacted the Hernando County Sheriff's Office on April 12 after discovering that someone was soliciting to haver her unborn child killed.
