During the investigation, police learned a 38-year-old man approached a vehicle “in a confrontational manor” with a gun in his hand. Another man in the vehicle shot the man, who then shot several times toward the vehicle as it drove away.

Medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The man who shot the victim remained on scene and was cooperative with detectives, who are investigating the homicide as possibly being self-defense. No arrests were made.

Some shoppers and staff members who were there at the time of the shooting spoke to 8 News Now.

Tina Tersek told 8 News Now she was shopping inside the store with her grandson when she heard gunshots outside. She was later told by police her car had been involved in the shooting. Tersek then went outside and noticed that her passenger front window had been blown out.

“We just came in to get groceries and all the sudden some sirens were going off in there and they were herding us out to the back door, about 10 minutes later they let us back in to finish shopping and when I got out here I couldn’t get to my car, they told me it had been shot,” Tersek said.

The Walmart store was closed to customers Wednesday evening. Walmart staff confirmed to 8 News Now Wednesday evening that the store would re-open Thursday at 6 a.m.

The investigation into the deadly shooting is ongoing, police said.

The identity of the victim, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the
