HEADLAND, Ala. (WDHN) — Headland man Rory Cole is facing three charges after over an hour-long standoff that ended peacefully Monday evening.

“He’s facing unlawful possession of an altered firearm since the serial number was peeled off, third-degree domestic violence, and obstructing police operations,” Headland Police Commander Bill Knight said.

This comes after police rushed to a home on Hollon Street in Headland.

Police say Cole had got into a domestic argument with his mother, and then ran out of the house firing a .380 pistol up into the air about 8 times before barricading himself in a neighboring house for 30 to 40 minutes.

Police are unsure what the argument was about.

“Investigator Bo Knight worked the case we all pretty much know him he’s not a bad kid we all pretty much know him,” Knight said. “It’s just something tripped him off and we all see it day in and day out.”

Knight said they do know Cole would struggle a little bit with his mental health.

“He would have emotional problems from time to time, that’s probably where it comes out of we don’t know but that’s more than likely what it is,” He said.

Police say they are thankful for agencies working together to end the standoff peacefully because those scenes are rare for headland.

“Praise the sheriff for helping us, our officers on duty, our investigator who was there for the shots fired, Captain Sanders secured the scene everybody worked like they were supposed to,” He said.

Cole is in the Henry County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
