Canes baseball tops Golden Bears, Beavers

The Hayward Hurricanes baseball team scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning and rolled to a 12-3 win over the Golden Bears in Barron Friday April 12.

Starting pitcher Body Roach gave up three hits and three earned runs in one inning. Thomas Fischer came in and pitched four innings to earn the win giving up three hits and no runs while striking out one and walking one. Tyler Eaton finished up, giving up two hits and no runs in two innings, walking one and striking out three.

Tyler Eaton (double) and Sam Schmidt each had two hits and two RBIs for the Canes. Dawson Jorczak had a hit and two RBIs, while Mac Seiling, Luke Snider, Micah Bacon and Gayge Schroeder had one hit apiece. Trent Kirkland and Brody Roach each had an RBI.

The win improved the Hurricanes’ record to 2-1 in conference play and 4-2 overall.

Thursday April 11

Hayward 10, Cumberland 0, six innings,

Nate Harrison and Brody Roach combined for a no-hit shut-out of the Beavers at Larry Somerville Field.

The Canes scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win on the 10-run rule.

Harrison struck out four and walked five in five innings to pick up the win. Roach pitched one inning in relief, striking out two.

The Canes had 12 hits.

Dawson Jorczak had three hits including a double and drove in two runs. Trent Kirkland had two hits and three RBIs, Micah Bacon had a double and an RBI, Harrison had a double, and Tyler Eaton, Kyle Gajewski (RBI), Sam Schmidt (RBI), and Mac Seiling each had a single.

Tuesday, April 9

The host Ladysmith Lumberjacks edged the Hurricanes 6-4, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Starting pitcher Grason Crust tossed 1 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs, walking two and striking out two. Dawson Jorczak pitched 5 1/3 innings and took the loss, giving up three hits and one earned run, walking four and striking out three.

Luke Snider had two hits and an RBI, Kyle Gajewski had a double, and Nate Harrison (RBI) and Mac Seiling each had a single. Sam Schmidt had an RBI.
