Pinckney Village leader under embezzlement investigation by MSP
Pinckney Village President Jeffrey Buerman is under investigation for alleged embezzlement by the Michigan State Police. MSP Spl/Lt. Rene Gonzalez confirmed the active investigation to The Daily via email Oct. 29. According to Gonzalez, the investigation began in July 2026. "It was initially closed as unfounded and then reopened after the division commander reviewed the complaint and requested further investigation," Gonzalez wrote to The Daily. No further details were released. "I have acted in what I believe to be the best interests of this village and its residents," Buerman wrote in an email to The Daily. "Our council has faced difficult financial decisions because we are spending more than we bring in. Some of those decisions have affected positions and employment. I understand that those changes have been painful and that not everyone agrees with them, but we have a responsibility to address the village’s financial challenges. I stand behind my actions and welcome a fair review of the facts." Buerman was elected village president in 2024, defeating incumbent Linda Lavey. He will again face Lavey during the general election Tuesday, Nov. 3. — Contact reporter Tess Ware at tware@livingstondaily.com.
