Developers eye 423-acre Holt data center, stress community buy-in
LANSING — Economic development officials want to build a data center for a 423-acre site south of Lansing, but are beginning with what they hope will be a novel community-centered process amid a groundswell of opposition to the artificial intelligence-driven projects elsewhere in Michigan. The Lansing Economic Area Partnership has partnered with Lighthouse Sustainability to begin a community engagement process with the intent to build a more than $10 billion data center, but with no set end user in mind for the site in Holt and Delhi Township. The group said Tuesday, Oct. 27 that it will work with community members over the next six months to develop a framework for what an acceptable data center, if any, would look like and use that to decide on an eventual end user. It would be up to the community to decide whether to lift the moratorium next April. "We have definitely observed and learned through other engagements and projects over the last number of years that we need to do things different," said Bob Trezise, president and CEO for LEAP. "And yet our community here,

Brighton businesses describe 'unbelievable' boost from Starz Hollow
Brighton businesses have reported varying results, including (for some) their best sales weekend ever, from the area's third Destination Starz Hollow . The free, immersive event took over Main Street on Sept. 26-27. Destination Starz Hollow transforms downtown into the fictional town of Stars Hollow from "Gilmore Girls." In doing so, the festivities draw thousands of visitors. The event's organizers estimate more than $10 million was driven into the community in September, with attendees from across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. 'My best weekend in fifty-one years' Pat Bayless — owner of Wood 'N Things at 200 Hyne St. — said this year's event prompted her best sales weekend ever. The family-owned shop carries a range of decorations, and participated as an "immersive business" for Destination Starz Hollow. "This was my best weekend in the fifty-one years I've been in business," Bayless told The Daily. While she didn't share specific sales figures, Bayless described the weekend as "unbelievable," pointing to high traffic, great weather and a positive response from visitors. Each year, she said, organizers seem to learn and improve from the previous year. Bayless believes attendance was also boosted by visits from prominent cast members Scott Patterson, Sean
