Heat warnings and advisories issued through Monday in Central Texas
With temperatures set to reach into the low 100s, and heat indexes skyrocketing to 113 on Monday, the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for Travis, Hays and Bastrop counties, and a heat advisory in Williamson County. After Monday, daytime temperatures will drop into the 90s, with overnight temperatures in the 70s and 80s.

Two Southern pitmasters from unlikely origins are spreading a new kind of barbecue gospel—from the Carolinas to Texas. As thousands of barbecue fans were set to descend on Lockhart, Texas, the barbecue capital of the state, on November 4 and 5, 2023, more than a dozen pitmasters spent the wee hours of the morning filling the air with the heady scent of post oak and seasoned meats. Nearly all of them were prepping the Texas standards: brisket, hot links, beef ribs. All except for a couple of guys laboring over two open pits where the smells wafting out were distinctly different—fattier, headier, spicier. These two were cooking whole hog.

On the morning of May 09, 2024, Vernon Lee Rabel, of Harwood, passed away at the age of 81. He was born on August 13, 1942, in Gonzales to his parents Henry and Annie Rabel. Vernon spent most of his life working on air conditioners, but he was a jack of all trades. He could fix almost anything you set in front of him. He was quite the tinker; he took things apart and put them back together to see how it all worked. He leaves behind many memories that family and friends will cherish.

Shiner's State Tournament begins Tuesday
SHINER, Texas- The last time Shiner Softball won a state championship was in 2016. Seven years later and none of the current seniors have competed in a state tournament. Council amends RV ordinance
The Moulton City Council amended an ordinance from 2012 at the May 14 meeting. This ordinance is in regards to RVs and people living in RVs. “People living in RVs are prohibited in the City of Moulton,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said. “Council amended this to include a notification letter and a time period for such notifications. That was not in the original ordinance. Officials have added in the proper notification and (people) now have 30 days to vacate after the official notification.”
