WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTNH) — Three suspects involved in a series of overnight commercial burglaries in the greater Hartford area have been apprehended in Delaware.
Nicholas Provencher, 44, Ashley Mercey, 33, and Matthew West, 46, were arrested by the New Castle County Delaware Sheriff’s Office on April 25 following a police chase that started in Pennsylvania.
The trio crashed the stolen vehicle they were driving during the pursuit and were then taken into custody by authorities.
All three are believed to be connected to a recent spate of commercial burglaries, including incidents in East Windsor and Windsor Locks.
Windsor Locks detectives had previously attempted to apprehend the suspects on April 19 after spotting them in Hartford driving a stolen vehicle. However, the pursuit was hampered by Connecticut’s restrictive pursuit policy, allowing the suspects to evade capture temporarily. The stolen vehicle was later sighted in Camden, NJ.
Provencher, who has a lengthy criminal history in Connecticut involving many arrests and convictions for burglaries and larcenies, was the subject of a DNA search warrant served by Windsor Locks detectives following his arrest in Delaware.
Provencher had been released from jail earlier in the year.
Both Mercey and West have multiple active warrants in Connecticut for failing to appear in court and violation of probation.
Presently, all three suspects are being held in New Castle County on charges of fugitive from justice from Pennsylvania. Burglary charges in Connecticut are pending as the investigation unfolds.
