Wastewater plans make Hill Country residents worry Pedernales River could turn into ‘sewer’
Landowners are concerned about the future of the Pedernales River after recent filings for wastewater permits at two developments. The permits ask for permission from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to discharge treated wastewater on land near the river.
Unsolved murder case still under investigation
A long-running unsolved murder is still receiving call-in tips, said Lt. Terry Weed of the Fredericksburg Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Department. The May 14, 2007 murder and arson fire at the home of 55-year-old Linda Muegge remains unsolved. But the local woman’s death that took place at her Franklin Street home is not a closed case.

In Kerrville, a town rocked by a scam mimicking law enforcement, the Kerrville Police Department is alerting the public to a duplicitous scheme. According to KENS 5, a scammer alleging to be Sergeant Jonathan Lamb of the KPD reached out to a local business, claiming that counterfeit currency had been passed and coercing them to buy a $500 gift card to fend off criminal charges.
Federal jury convicts Fredericksburg doctor over $70 million Medicare fraud scheme
AUSTIN, Texas — A jury in federal court convicted a Fredericksburg doctor on Friday for defrauding Medicare of over $70 million. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, court documents and trial evidence indicated that 61-year-old Dr. David M. Young of Fredericksburg signed thousands of medical records and prescriptions for orthotic braces and genetic tests that falsely claimed that the braces and tests were medically necessary. He subsequently diagnosed the beneficiaries, claimed to have a plan of care for them and recommended they receive additional treatment. The braces and tests were ordered through a telemarketing scheme.

A federal jury convicted a Fredericksburg doctor on Friday for a $70 million Medicare fraud scheme in which he signed thousands of prescriptions for braces and genetic tests that he said were medically necessary, oftentimes without even meeting the patients.
