Canyon walks off game one against West Plains in regional quarterfinal battle
CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - The Canyon Eagles defeated district foe West Plains in game one of the regional quarterfinals, 8-7, at Wilder Park at West Texas A&M. Entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Eagles were down 7-6. Jacob Burris hits an RBI single scoring two runs for Canyon to walk it off.
Key role: Dumas, Pampa softball use experience of 4-4A play for extended playoff runs
There was rarely an easy game for softball teams in District 4-4A this season, and the district’s depth has shown in the playoffs. Every playoff qualifier, Dumas, West Plains, Pampa and Randall, reached the Region I quarterfinals to face each other. Dumas and Pampa are the two left standing in the Region I semifinals as the Demonettes defeated Randall and the Harvesters topped West Plains. Dumas faces Sanger this week, and Pampa takes on Burkburnett this weekend.

High stakes: Canyon, West Plains baseball meet in clash of district rivals
This weekend, two familiar foes face off in a high-stakes matchup. District 4-4A rivals Canyon High and West Plains will meet in the Class 4A Region I quarterfinals starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday at West Texas A&M. The Eagles and Wolves split their previous two matchups this season, with Canyon winning its home matchup 4-3 and West Plains winning 11-0.
9,600 tons of wildfire debris moving from Fritch to Canyon
FRITCH, Texas (KFDA) - The Fritch Recycling Center has become the temporary wildfire debris site, with a date set to move the debris to a landfill in Canyon. “Currently at the Fritch Recycling Center we have a temporary debris site set up with the TCEQ. What’s there right now is our debris that is collected over the February and March wildfires here in the Fritch and Stinnett area,” said Jerry Langwell, Hutchinson County Emergency Management coordinator and fire marshal.
