Man arrested on 7th OVI charge, faces prison time: OSHP

LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) — A Columbiana County man was taken to jail over the weekend for what a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol says is his seventh OVI arrest.

Ronald Smalley, 61, was stopped by troopers around 10:30 a.m. Friday for a speed violation while driving on state Route 172 in Hanover Township. A release from OSHP said Smalley was put through field sobriety tests and subsequently arrested on the charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He also took a breath test, which returned a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of 0.128, over Ohio’s legal limit of 0.08, according to OSHP.

The release states over the course of Smalley’s life he has been arrested for OVI a total of seven times, with two previous felony OVI convictions. If convicted on this most recent charge — a felony 3 OVI offense — he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces charges of speed violation and driving without a valid license for the incident.

OSHP encourages the public to always drive sober.
