Memorial Day Weekend Ends with New England Earthquake in New Hampshire
The Memorial Day Weekend ended with a weak earthquake in New England in southern New Hampshire near the border with Vermont and Massachusetts. Striking outside of West Chesterfield just across the river from Brattleboro, Vermont, USGS reports the weak magnitude 1.4 event struck from a depth of 4.6 km at 8:25 pm last night. While the earthquake was too weak to create any damage or injuries, people did use the USGS website to report they felt shaking in the area around the epicenter.

Work underway on Lebanon landfill methane capture project
LEBANON, N.H. (WCAX) - Lebanon officials held a groundbreaking Tuesday morning for a long-anticipated methane capture project at the city’s landfill. The $6 million project includes the construction of five microturbines that will produce roughly a megawatt of power from the methane gas that is currently being flared off at the facility.
The Ottauquechee River Trail will be rebuilt to better withstand flooding
WOODSTOCK, Vt. — Just three years after opening, parts of the Ottauquechee River Trail in Woodstock were decimated after last summer’s flooding. “The main part of the trail was underwater by 10 feet,” said Tom Weschler, lead volunteer of the Ottauquechee River Trail. “So a very active river took away all of our bog bridges, our benches, our picnic tables, trail signage. And so it really caused extensive damage for the trail.”
Memorial Day motorcycle tribute rolls on
MILTON, Vt. (WCAX) - This Memorial Day weekend, people in Milton and across the state came out to watch Vermont Thunder, the annual motorcycle parade honoring veterans. The group, which rides from Sharon to Enosburgh each year, started in 1992 and organizers say it has become the biggest motorcycle ride in New England.
