Brighton Township approves rezoning for nine customizable homes
A successful rezoning request has paved the way for nine luxury homes in Brighton Township . The project, Rolling Ridge Estates, will be located on the eastside of South Old US-23 and Acme Way. The developer will build nine homes on nine parcels across 22 acres, now rezoned from General Business to Residential Single-Family. The second reading of the rezoning was approved during a meeting of the Brighton Township Board of Trustees on Oct. 19. The project had a first reading Aug. 17. The property has remained undeveloped under commercial zoning for over fifteen years, according to the meeting packet. The applicant behind the project is Big Sky Development of Brighton. The company's marketing director, Rob Moen, said the homes will be custom built from numerous modifiable plans, with prices starting at roughly $800,000. More: Brighton Twp. residents can now join five-year 'do not solicit' list The average lot is over one acre, with a single 10-acre parcel, according to Moen. There's a deed restriction stating the parcels can never be split or reconfigured into additional parcels. Flap Jack Shack in limbo as Auto-Owners Insurance fights fire claim
LANSING TWP. — The owner of the Flap Jack Shack that has been closed since an April fire said the popular restaurant won't open until at least the end of February, and likely longer, because of a dispute with Auto-Owners Insurance. Owner Jozef Gjonaj said the conflict centers on who is responsible for repairs in the event of an insurance claim for the interior of the building at 3000 E. Grand River Avenue, he or building owner Sam Edye Management Co. Gjonaj leases the space from Eyde and was insured through Auto-Owners. Gjonaj said he's provided ample proof to Lansing-based Auto-Owners, including a lease agreement, that his company J&G Restaurant, Inc. is responsible for all interior repairs at the restaurant. Auto-Owners received a June 25 insurance claim for the interior damages of approximately $2.2 million, according to documents provided to the State Journal by Jeff Moss. Moss, from JML Adjusting Services in West Bloomfield, works as an adjuster for residential or commercial property owners to help them with their claims to their insurance companies. The company disputes that Gjonaj is responsible for the damage, despite receiving a copy of his lease and two letters from Sam Eyde Management Co., the

Lansing sues out-of-state landlord Indus Realty for code violations
LANSING — An out-of-state property owner is being sued by the city for housing code violations, this time for more than a dozen homes the city of Lansing tagged because officials say they're either unfit for human occupancy or have serious code violations. An Oct. 27 hearing is scheduled in Lansing's 54A District Court to see if Indus Realty LLC, which also goes by the name DWL Indus Realty LLC, has done any work on the properties, said Rawley Van Fossen, in charge of Lansing's code enforcement team. The company already has amassed a code enforcement paper trail that goes back for years and unpaid fines and fees that run into thousands of dollars for infractions that don't include court fees. The city has sued Indus Realty more than a dozen times since 2024, most recently in July. The State Journal was prohibited from reviewing the court files involving litigation between the city and Indus in 54A District Court despite Michigan court records being public. Court Administrator Anethia Brewer told a reporter in September that the files were not publicly available but that the court could produce the citations the city issued Indus Realty in six to eight weeks.
