Larry Fitzgerald and Joe Mauer named U.S. Amateur co-chairs
Joe Mauer, a first-ballot National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, and Larry Fitzgerald Jr., an 11-time National Football League (NFL) Pro Bowler, have been named honorary co-chairs of the 2024 U.S. Amateur Championship, which will be played at Hazeltine National Golf Club, in Chaska, Minn., from Aug. 12-18. “I am humbled to represent the state of Minnesota, the Twin Cities and Hazeltine National as the honorary chair of the 2024 U.S. Amateur,” said Mauer. “As someone who has great enthusiasm not only for the game of golf, but also for competitive athletics and all the great things that can be learned through sports, I’m thrilled to have a role in this prestigious national championship. I’m confident Minnesota’s golf fans will join me in welcoming the game’s best amateur players to our home.”
Kicking up meals for those in need
The Waconia U14 Soccer Club girls teamed up last month to pack meals for the hungry. The girls had a team building event April 25 volunteering at Feed My Starving Children in Chanhassen where they helped pack 59 boxes or 33,984 meals. The girls learned a lot while having fun, said team manager Megan Grudt, and as one girl remarked, “That was fun and it feels so good to do something nice for others!” (Submitted photos)

Chaska Police Successfully Locate Missing Woman with Dissociative Amnesia
The Chaska Police Department put out an urgent plea for assistance to the public in the search for Michelle Mushel, a missing 53-year-old Asian woman described as being 5'3" and weighing 110 pounds. Mushel was reported missing after she left her home in Chaska on foot around 11:30 am. Authorities indicated she was last seen wearing a green hoodie, glasses, and gray sweatpants, according to an appeal posted on the Carver County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
Softball team claws its way to top of Metro West

Scout achieves Eagle rank
Jack Geller of Waconia Troop 327 recently was recognized for achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout at a court of honor ceremony. He achieved the rank in November and an Eagle Scout project plaque dedication was held April 28. His Scouting career accomplishments include completing all 139 merit badges, something that is rarely achieved in Scouting careers. Geller’s Eagle Scout project involved building a gazebo for the Laketown Elementary School playground. Last year he was part of the World Scout Jamboree held in South Korea, one of 11 Scouts from Minnesota who were part of the 500-member U.S. contingent.
Teen injured in Highway 52 crash
(ABC 6 News) – One person is injured after a crash on Highway 52 early Sunday morning. According to Minnesota State Patrol, it happened around 12:39 a.m. in Goodhue County. The crash report states 18-year-old Dakota Porter from Mayer, MN was traveling northbound on Highway 52, when he over-corrected and rolled in the median.
