FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS — A cluster of early morning showers and thunderstorms was moving through portions of eastern Oklahoma, northwestern Arkansas, and southwestern Missouri as of 6:02 AM on June 27, 2026, with radar showing the most intense activity concentrated near Muskogee, Springdale, Fort Smith, and the Joplin corridor.

Flash flooding sweeps through Ash Grove, Mo., forces evacuations
ASH GROVE, Mo. (KY3) - Flash flooding swept through Ash Grove on Thursday evening, forcing several people to be rescued from rising and rushing water. The flooding came suddenly, creating a river through town that did not exist minutes before. High water reached the sides of houses on Exchange Street, where emergency crews worked through the water to respond to the emergency.

North Joplin bookstore owner tosses thousands of books after storm damages roof
A storm damaged the roof of Always Buying Books, a North Joplin bookstore that has operated for 25 years. Owner Bob Wolfe says roughly 17,000 books were exposed to water and the risk of mold and mildew forced him to discard them. Despite the loss, Wolfe says the store will recover, as it has through past hardships including a tornado and the COVID-19 pandemic.
