Heavy Rain, Severe Weather Postpones Super DIRTcar Series Event at Thunder Mountain to July 17
With heavy overnight rainfall at Thunder Mountain Speedway and more projected to fall throughout the day, including the potential for severe storms, Super DIRTcar Series and Thunder Mountain officials have agreed to postpone Monday’s Thunder on the Mountain event. The event will now be run on Wednesday, July 17.
South African man indicted for assaulting several people aboard cruise ship to Alaska
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The South African man who stabbed several people aboard a cruise ship in Juneau on May 6, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Alaska. Ntando Sogoni, 35, assaulted a female victim with trauma scissors, stabbing her several times in the chest, arms and head. He then attacked two security guards who tried to intervein, one of which was a national of the Philippines, stabbed in the head, while the other, a national of Nepal, stabbed in the spine.
Anchorage's population declines by 1.8%

Alaska hospital proposes cutting 6 programs
Juneau, Alaska-based Bartlett Regional Hospital is considering cutting back or closing six programs due to financial strain, Juneau Empire reported May 24. The facility has suffered operating losses every year since 2000, when the City and Borough of Juneau transferred management of the facility to the hospital, according to the report. The hospital will hold a series of meetings and public comment events in coming months as it crafts plans for "non-core hospital services in light of the hospital's $10M annual budget deficit," Joe Wanner, Bartlett's chief financial officer, said in a presentation. The hospital's fund balance could be depleted in three years without significant changes.
