Malibu’s PCH Speed Cameras Logged 100,000 Violations in Nine Days. Now the City Is Rechecking the Speed Limit
Four speed cameras on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu recorded about 100,000 drivers going at least 11 mph over the limit between September 16 and September 24, and not one of them will get a bill. City council seeks traffic signal study for crossing near Malibu Seafood
After years of discussion, council directs staff to seek Metro approval to study a street-level PCH crossing with advance warning signals and a possible median barrier. A long-discussed effort to provide safer pedestrian access across Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu Seafood took a new direction Monday, as the City Council asked staff to pursue a study of a street-level crossing with a conventional traffic signal rather than move forward with the proposed under crossing study. At the Oct. 12 meeting, council members raised concerns about the cost, flooding risks and construction challenges of building a pedestrian tunnel near the beach. But they also emphasized that leaving people to navigate the busy highway without a nearby marked crossing remains a safety problem.
