FIRST ALERT: Severe storm potential Monday & Tuesday
FIRST ALERT MONDAY: A few showers move through this morning to the north and west as a front moves in to the region. Morning rain won’t bring a severe risk. However, during the evening hours, thunderstorms will pop back up along the front during peak daytime heating, mainly in the central and southern areas of our region. Southeast ND, the central Red River Valley, and all of our MN counties are included in a Level 2 risk of severe, per the SPC, meaning scattered severe storms are possible. Hazards include golf ball-sized hail and damaging winds up to 60 mph. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out either. The storms may stick around until early Monday night. By that time, expect up to 0.5″ to 1″ of rain in some areas. Because of the risk of severe weather, we have made Monday a First Alert Weather Day. Keep the VNL First Alert Weather App handy as we track the storms.
