Three Groesbeck tracksters compete at regional meet

Three Groesbeck track athletes who competed at the Region III-3A meet failed to qualify for the state meet based on their performances at the regional at Waco Midway on Saturday, April 20.
Cyler Corn finished fourth in the shot put and Jordan Smith was fourth in the 100-meter dash. On the girls' side, Mohoganie Washington finished eighth in the 100-meter dash.
The top two finishers in each event will move on to the UIL State Track & Field Championships slated for Thursday, May 2, at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus in Austin.
Smith, a freshman, was timed in 11.28 seconds in the finals. He was three-tenths of a second out of qualifying for the state meet. Chard Hayes of Boling finished second in 10.98 seconds. Coy Klish of West won the race in 10.89 seconds.
Corn, a senior, finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 1 1/4 inch.
Washington, a senior, was timed in 13.18 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Na'Kayla Conner of Fairfield won the event in 12.37 seconds.
