BJ's Wholesale Club eyes a new location in Horry County. Here's what we know

A popular northeastern wholesale supermarket chain is looking to expand into North Myrtle Beach after opening its first Grand Strand location last year. BJ’s Wholesale Club submitted development plans to the City of North Myrtle Beach for a new location between Champions Boulevard and South Carolina Highway 90. The proposal comes after the company opened its first Horry County store in Myrtle Beach in February 2025. The warehouse chain uses a club system where only members shop in its stores, similar to Costco or Sam’s Club. BJ’s is based in Massachusetts and, according to its website, BJ’s has 8.5 million members across its 270 stores in 22 states. The Sun News was unable to reach the company for comment, but preliminary plans submitted to North Myrtle Beach reveal some details about the proposed location. The building would be around 106,628 square feet, including a 3,400-square-foot tire service area, with 381 parking spaces. The rendering also describes signage for a gas station.

Is it legal to throw your pet's poop in neighbor's trash can? What SC law says

It’s trash day in your neighborhood, and you have your can sitting along the curb waiting for pickup. Then along comes a neighbor walking their dog and throws their pet’s bag of feces into your trash can. Putting aside the fact that the act is not very neighborly, is it against the law? South Carolina law says that a person cannot “dump, throw, drop, deposit, discard, or otherwise dispose of litter or other solid waste upon ... private property in the State for which he is not the legal owner or a person otherwise granted permission by the legal owner.” Horry County has separate solid-waste rules , and using someone else’s bin without permission could still prompt a complaint. The law also states that “garbage” that is placed in trash cans for pickup “shall not include human or animal feces.” There are other city ordinances with rules about picking up and disposing of your pet’s waste. Two popular grocery chains are opening new locations just across the North Carolina state line from Horry County. The new Publix Super Market at 9770 Ocean Highway W. in Calabash opened Wednesday morning, the latest retail offering in the Commons at Carolina Shores plaza. Nearby at 9700 Ocean Highway W., a new Walmart Supercenter is set to celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, Nov. 4 after its originally announced Oct. 7 opening was delayed. The ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. will feature appearances from Wheel of Fortune co-host and North Myrtle Beach native Vanna White and country music artist Niko Moon.
