Hard-working business site is transformed into sustainable home
On a quiet country road in Pendleton, SC, a cinderblock warehouse built in 1978 once sat tucked behind the trees. A storage space for hay and old cars, the industrial building was also where Rachel Allgood’s father held his annual barbecues for customers of his tire store. By 2018, the ivy was crawling the building’s walls and trees grew out of the foundation. Today, Rachel and her husband Bob Lucier have thoughtfully transformed the run-down building into a modern, European-style home that honors the sustainability of its rural environment. “We wanted to keep the feel industrial but inviting,” says Lucier. “We didn’t want wood that would rot or get infested with termites and require painting. Empty Seneca storefront in line to be re-habbed
The owners of 329 Main Street, Seneca, received the OK last night to go forward with changes to the front and back of the empty store building. Representing his partners, Danny Delmarco left City Hall last night with the approval of a certificate of appropriateness. The Board of Architectural Review (BOAR) gave meticulous attention to the certificate application, to be satisfied that the changes to both the front and the back of the building align with the city’s design review guidelines. The building owners as yet do not have a purpose in mind for the building, but Delmarco explained the goal at this point is to create a shell of a building that’ll suit a future tenant. He does not rule out the possibility that 329 Main can be made suitable for a couple of businesses.
