WATCH: Cicadas begin to emerge in Upstate

GREENWOOD, S.C. (WSPA) – One of the most popular topics of conversation this spring has been the emergence of a rare breed of Cicadas which only hatches every 13 to 17 years.

This year the Carolinas and other states are getting a double dose of cicadas, and the extra bugs have already made headlines for how loud they can be, with some even calling emergency services out of concern for how loud the bugs have been.

A trio of videos shared with 7News by Deb Crenshaw-Nygro showcases some of the rare breed of cicadas found in Greenwood.
