Man dies after crash in Guilford County at NC-61, Howerton Road, troopers say

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A man died after a crash on Sunday in Guilford County, according to a State Highway Patrol news release.

At 11:15 a.m., troopers responded to the report of a crash on NC-61 at Howerton Road in Guilford County.

Randel Dan Clark, 79, of Bluff City, Tennessee, was going west on Howerton Road in a 2018 Chevrolet and had stopped at the intersection with NC-61.

A 34-year-old Gibsonville man was going north on NC 61 in a 2009 Chevrolet.

Clark didn’t yield, pulled out onto NC-61 and hit the vehicle the Gibsonville man was driving in the intersection, troopers say.

The Gibsonville man suffered a minor injury and was taken to the hospital.

Clark, and a front seat passenger in his vehicle, a 76-year-old Tennessee woman, suffered serious life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.,

Troopers were told on Monday that Clark had succumbed to injuries received from the crash.

NC-61 at Howerton Road was closed for around two hours during the investigation.

Troopers cleared the scene at 1:04 p.m.
