Greensboro neighbors want to know who shot toddler on Vance Street

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — An investigation is underway after a shooting in Greensboro on Tuesday night.

“To shoot a child … in a car seat … How ruthless can you be?” said Fred, a man who heard the shooting.

People in Greensboro hope police can track down the suspect wanted for shooting three people, including a toddler.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. on Vance Street. Robert Franklin Wright, 71, died at the scene, and his wife and grandchild were injured but are expected to survive.

People who live on the street say it is not uncommon to hear gunshots in the distance.

“You don’t worry about it because most times, it is some guys having fun, shooting up in the air,” Fred said.

But these 12 shots were different, especially since a toddler was caught in the crossfire.

“That is a shame … Whoever did it needs to pay for that,” Fred said.

Fred spoke about how he knew the victims. They do not live on the street but come around often.

“Most everybody over here is like family,” Fred said.

FOX8 heard from many people who said they all watch out for each other, and some even ran to help once they heard the toddler crying.

Greensboro police say all the victims were inside of a parked car on the street when they were shot.

“It is a real shock to everybody,” Fred said.

Investigators do not believe this was a random act of violence.

There is no suspect information available at this time, and the detectives are still working to find a motive.
