GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – In the wake of an active police chief in Greenfield, the department is incorporating new policing measures to help create safety for their residents.

One of the biggest changes is the increase in police patrols downtown. It aims to not only deter crime but build relationships and trust between the police and the community. According to the department’s active chief, police are conducting property checks 24 hours a day, including on private properties and in town parks. Additionally, they are also committed to enforcing speed limits and ensuring safe roads for both vehicles and pedestrians.

“There are speeders everywhere, but some places are worse than others. when we identify a location that is a hot spot for speeding we’ll start putting officers on there, spend more time there, hopefully get it to slow down there,” said Greenfield Police Department Acting Chief, Todd Dodge.

The department also offers various services such as community surveys and regular patrols to further address resident concerns. There are also plans to add five officers by the end of next year.
