Wolverine Boy’s Track Seeing Stellar Improvement Through Halfway Point of the Season

(Greenfield, IA) – With a small but mighty Nodaway Valley boy’s track team this season, they’ve been able to see some top finishes even while throwing some athletes into multiple events. At their last meet on Monday, Eli Harris was able to earn fifth in the 400-meter hurdles, an event that he previously had no experience in. Head Coach Chase Green was proud of Harris for stepping in and giving it his all on the track.

Looking at the throwers, Coach Green is looking for consistency out of Trent Warner to get him some good throws in while also giving him the confidence that he can go out and outthrow anybody. The other key thrower for Nodaway Valley is Ashton Honnold who outthrew his teammate while remaining consistent and continues to see improvements along the way.

With such a small team, there are given advantages and challenges. These athletes get a lot of personal one-on-one care with Coach Green and they can specifically work on techniques or improvements with each individual athlete. The challenge that pops up is that many athletes have other obligations that leave a few relays out of contention for Nodaway Valley.

In tonight’s meet at Martensdale-St. Marys, the Wolverines are looking to get the time down for Eli Harris even further in the 400-meter hurdles and to get a sprint medley team together to have more options later in the season.

Every single meet is important for Nodaway Valley from here on out. While it may not feel like it, we are just a month away from the state track and field meet in Des Moines. It comes to a crucial point for Nodaway Valley on how they need to be at 100% every single meet and compete at the top of their game.

The Wolverines are currently at Martensdale-St. Mary’s today and will resume action next Tuesday, April 23rd at Madrid High School.
