Open Friday: Aunty’s Jamaican Kitchen in Greece

GREECE, N.Y. (WROC) — Coming to Greece Friday is Aunty’s Jamaican Kitchen; an authentic Jamaican fast-casual joint with a few twists on the menu. The address is 1250 Latta Road. The grand opening is Friday from 11 a.m. until sellout.

Shelly-Ann Robinson is the owner and head cook, and works as a nurse manager at a local hospital, and in her words, “if I’m not there, I’m at the (restaurant).”

She’s from Jamaica originally, can came to New York City when she was 19, and eventually made her way to Rochester.

On the menu here is jerked chicken and wings, curry goat and chicken, ox tail, and something called “Rasta Pasta;” her version has a creamy sauce with jerked chicken, shrimp or whatever else.

She got her start as a cook for her big family, but years later, she still loves the food.

“The rewarding part is the look on their faces,” she said. “And getting people to try new things that they normally would not try, and then they love it, especially cabbage. Not a lot of people are big takers but they do like the stir-fried cabbage here.”

As for the name of the business, Robinson named after her own aunty, Esther. At 80 years young, she’s still helping Shelly-Ann in the kitchen.
