GRASSY CREEK — Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the arrest of 36-year-old Travis Brian Walters of Grassy Creek after fleeing officers.

On March 21, Deputy Elliott was patrolling the Grassy Creek area when he noticed a vehicle approaching him at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Travis Walters, was wanted out of Grayson County, Virginia, for burglary and initiated a traffic stop. Walters then accelerated to up to 20 miles over the posted speed limit. Walters abruptly stopped at a metal building and exited the vehicle on foot. Deputy Baldwin and detectives arrived on the scene. Walters did not stop at verbal commands and continued on foot. Deputies were able to apprehend Walters and place him under arrest.

Walters was charged with felony extradition/fugitive from another state, resisting a public officer and flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle.

Ashe County Sheriff's Deputies transported Walters to the Ashe County Detention Center, where he was booked under a $40,000 secured bond.
