Mid-Ohio Valley students named National Merit Scholar recipients
PARKERSBURG — Two students from Wood and Wirt counties were named Tuesday as National Merit Scholar recipients of scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. They are Chase S. Anderson, of Mineral Wells, a student at Parkersburg South High School, and Maxwell T. Flanagan of Palestine, a student at Wirt County High School.
2 people dead after home explosion in Ritchie County
PENNSBORO, W.Va. (WDTV) - Two people died in a fire Sunday morning in Ritchie County, according to the Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Department. Crews responded to a home explosion just outside of the the Pennsboro city limits at 8:37 a.m. Sunday morning. After getting the fire under control, it was confirmed two individuals died in the home, officials said.

WOOD COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A person died in house fire in Wood County Friday night despite the efforts of two neighbors, deputies say. Dispatchers received a call at 8:30 p.m. reporting a structure fire along Dickens Drive in Mineral Wells with a disabled person stuck inside the home, according to a news release from Wood County Sheriff’s Office.
Man in Wood County Arrested for Possession of Suspected Fentanyl/Heroin, Prohibited Firearms
PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) -The Wood County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man who possessed a large amount of various drugs and firearms. Deputy B.G. Turner was on patrol around Marrtown Road and Dupont Road when he spotted a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse missing a motor vehicle inspection sticker. He stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Robert D. Pennell III of Racine, West Virginia.
